Primary Purpose:
To assist students in mastery of academic curriculum in a tutorial setting.
Education / Certification:
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Bachelor’s Degree is preferred
- Texas Teaching Certificate is preferred
Special Knowledge / Skills:
- Knowledge of core academic subject assigned.
- General Knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Experience / Other Requirements:
- Some experience working with students is preferred.
- Fingerprinting is required.
- Attend substitute teacher orientation.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Tutor and work with individual students or groups in assigned subject(s).
- Work with classroom teacher and/or campus administration to address areas of weakness as identified from previous STAAR/EOC testing, benchmark classroom exams, and other formative and summative measures.
- Maintain an orderly work area.
- Keep records of student progress as needed, such as behavior, grades, attendance.
- Maintain strict student confidentiality.
- Keep supervisor informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
- Communicate with teachers regarding students’ academic progress and/or needs as per request of supervisor.
- Provide a positive, calm, and consistent learning environment for students.
- Communicate with students in a positive and encouraging way.
- Help keep administrative records and help prepare required reports, including accurate records of time worked (timesheets).
- Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain a professional relationship with campus staff.
- Be a positive role model for students.
- Support mission of school district.
