Primary Purpose:

To assist students in mastery of academic curriculum in a tutorial setting.

 

Education / Certification:

  1. High School Diploma or GED is required.
  2. Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
  3. Bilingual Texas Teaching Certificate is preferred.

 

Special Knowledge / Skills:

  1. Fluent in Spanish, ability to read, write and speak Spanish fluently.
  2. General Knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  3. Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
  4. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

 

Experience / Other Requirements:

  1. Fingerprinting is required.
  2. Two references with email addresses.
  3. Attend substitute teacher orientation.

 Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Tutor and work with individual students or groups in assigned subject(s) in Spanish.
  2. Work with classroom teacher and/or campus administration to address areas of weakness as identified from previous, IPT scores, benchmark classroom exams, and other formative and summative measures.
  3. Maintain an orderly work area.
  4. Keep records of student progress as needed, such as behavior, grades, attendance, Spanish fluency.
  5. Maintain strict student confidentiality.
  6. Keep supervisor informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
  7. Communicate with teachers regarding students’ academic and linguistic progress and/or needs as per request of supervisor.
  8. Provide a positive, calm, and consistent learning environment for students.
  9. Communicate with students in a positive and encouraging way.
  10. Help keep administrative records and help prepare required reports, including accurate records of time worked (timesheets).
  11. Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy.
  12. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  13. Maintain a professional relationship with campus staff.
  14. Be a positive role model for students.
  15. Support the mission of the school district.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervision of assigned student(s).

 

Equipment Used:

Personal computer and standard office equipment.
