Description

Primary Purpose: 

Responsible for supervising the driver workforce and coordinating the daily operations (driver, routing, and vehicle activities) necessary to ensure safe and on time delivery. Maintains the highest level of professional communication with campus administrators, fellow employees, and our community. 

 

Education / Certification: 

  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. Some college to include education/training courses is preferred.
  3. Class B CDL License with P&S endorsements.
  4. Texas School Bus Driver Safety Training Certificate.
  5. Must be certified or willing to obtain certification by the Texas Association of Pupil Transportation (TAPT) as a Pupil Transportation Official, Supervisor, Specialist or Trainer.
  6. Certified Drug/Alcohol Awareness Program Supervisor or willing to obtain.

Special Knowledge / Skills: 

  1. Ability to work effectively with campus principals, staff, students, and parents.
  2. Strong organization skills and group presentation skills.
  3. Excellent interpersonal skills and well developed written and verbal communication skills.
  4. Must be knowledgeable in adult training techniques and possess a mechanical aptitude, and strong leadership skills.
  5. Computer literate, preferable in word processing, PowerPoint, and spreadsheets.
  6. Basic math skills, detail orientation, mapping, and routing skills. 

Experience / Other Requirements:

  1. Five or more years of general work experience.
  2. Three years in school bus industry preferred.
  3. Personal cell phone is required to handle district related business, including after hours, or when away from the office on district business.

Major Responsibilities and Duties: 

  1. Examines and reviews the daily timeclock exception report.
  2. Manages direct and indirect hours, minimizing overtime for the employees.
  3. Collects and audits employees' time sheets.
  4. Ensures the effective utilization of vehicles.
  5. Optimizes vehicle routing and record supporting data/documentation.
  6. Ensures that key pupil transportation data is collected.
  7. Monitors on-time performance.
  8. Responds and investigates vehicle accidents as necessary.
  9. Documents and manages campus administrators, parent, and employee complaints.
  10. Prepares and submits required reports in a timely manner.
  11. Assists Director of Transportation in preparation of the Transportation Budget and subsequent analysis of variance.
  12. Supervises compliance with Comal ISD policies and/or processes by action and speech. Discusses any breech of policy and procedure noted with the Director of Transportation.
  13. Evaluates the performance of all direct-report personnel on a regular basis according to Comal ISD policy. Reviews findings with Director of Transportation and employee individually.
  14. Administers appropriate employee discipline as necessary.
  15. Prepares state route descriptions and state reports.
  16. Cooperates with all Comal ISD Student Transportation Services personnel, campus administrators, parents, students, and communities.
  17. Responsible for properly maintaining district records, adhering to all policies set forth by the district for records maintenance and learning the records retention schedule for department records.
  18. Other duties as assigned. 

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Area Bus Drivers, Bus Assistants and assigned operations staff.
