Primary Purpose:
Assist the wastewater operator to ensure the proper operation and maintenance of wastewater (biological) treatment systems and collection facilities. Assists with performing adequate process control of wastewater treatment and collection facilities in accordance with permits issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality for all Class “C” permitted facilities and local permitting authorities for all facilities with an On-Site Sewage Facility (OSSF). Assists with repairs to all wastewater treatment systems.
Education / Certification:
1. High School Diploma or GED. 2. Valid Texas driver’s license with demonstrated safe driving record.

1. Must have the ability to actively listen to others for understanding of their needs and situations: ability to speak and write English clearly. Must be able to assertively control conversations in order to quickly and accurately gather pertinent information and be able to communicate this information professionally and precisely to the proper recipient. Must have the ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions. Must be able to read and understand laboratory tests conducted in a wastewater treatment facility. 2. Ability to learn the operation of a variety of lab equipment, generators, pumps, gauges, and other common tools. Must have the ability to learn control calculations. 4. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material. 5. Must have the ability to operate computer equipment up to long periods of time. Must be able to use a shovel, common hand and power tools, wrenches, detection devices, mobile radio, phone, calculator and a variety of lab equipment. 6. Understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
Experience / Other Requirements
1. One year of experience working with Wastewater operations is preferred. 2. Minor plumbing experience preffered. 3. Personal cell phone is required to handle district related business, including after hours, or when away from the office on district business. 4. Must obtain Class “D” wastewater operator certification within one year of date of hire. 5. Must obtain Class “C” wastewater operator certification within two years of receipt of Class “D” certification.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Monitor and maintain machinery, pumps, motors, vehicles, chemical feed equipment, settling and/or separating equipment, aeration devices, filter and filter backwash equipment, plant buildings/structures, etc. 2. Conduct routine tests involving effluent water quality which include, but are not limited to the following: chlorine residuals, pH, alkalinity, and settable solids. 3. Monitor equipment such as flow meters, time clocks, pump run times, etc. 4. Monitor boxes for mower damage and /or other repairs. 5. Monitor condition of drip fields and make minor repairs in drip dispersal system. 6. Perform minor repairs at wastewater facilities as needed. 7. Record daily flows at On Site Sewage Facility (OSSF) wastewater plants. 8. Maintain wastewater plant cleanliness to include: trash, wash-down, and monitor need for pesticide/herbicide services. 9. Preventative Maintenance of blowers and pumps. 10. Perform monthly inspections of all lift stations. 11. Meet contractors onsite to provide access for pump outs, annual flow meter checks, sign manifests, and verify services. 12. Collect and deliver data to include: daily logs, pumping manifests, application rates, and maintenance log, to a central location for filing, archiving, and reporting. 13. Maintains accurate records on material and labor used. 14. Maintains inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials. 15. Detects needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment following established inspection procedures.
16. Assists construction personnel as needed. 17. Responds to emergency calls as needed. 18. Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment. 19. Operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures. 20. Ensures that equipment is in safe operating condition. 21. Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc. 22. Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately. 23. Responsible for properly maintaining district records, adhering to all policies set forth by the district for records maintenance and learning the records retention schedule for department records. 24. Other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
