Description

Primary Purpose:
Provides behavior analysis and behavior management plans for students served in special education; provides supports and professional learning to administration, campus staff, and parent/guardians in appropriate behavior intervention techniques; conducts assessments and develops plans that conform to IDEA, Texas law and regulations and other applicable statutes and regulations.


Education / Certification:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in job related area is required.
  2. Board Certified Behavior Analyst Certification is required.
  3. Master’s Degree in Special Education, Applied Behavior Analysis or related field is preferred.
  4. Maintains a current Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification.


Experience / Other Requirements:

  1. A minimum of three (3) years of experience working as a behavior or autism specialist, or related field is required.
  2. Experience writing behavior plans for students with behavior difficulties including students with disabilities is required.
  3. Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) or similar research-based training experience and training is required.

  1. Ability to establish rapport and work constructively with staff, students, parents, and community members.
  2. Ability to creatively solve problems and work through the conflict resolution process.
  3. General knowledge of the state curriculum structure.
  4. Knowledge of special education programs, regulations, and specific areas of disability.
  5. Ability to evaluate program effectiveness; program compliance.
  6. Ability to create and interpret effective data systems.
  7. Ability to interpret evaluation data (FIE) with regards to program planning and implementation.
  8. Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
  9. Ability to establish and maintain relationships with CISD, other districts, state and federal agency personnel who are involved with the research, administration, and coordination of Special Education programs.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:


Behavioral/Instructional Management

  1. Collaborates with administrators, campus staff, and parents/guardians to provide research-based and/or peer reviewed interventions.
  2. Develops materials, provides resources/technical assistance, and provides professional learning to administrators, campus staff, and parents/guardians regarding effective interventions and positive behavioral supports. Provides techniques and/or other evidence-based methodologies related to addressing the needs of students with behavior difficulties.
  3. Develops, supports, and implements reinforcement-based classroom management systems.
  4. Develops and maintains behavioral data and creates graphical data representations and reports for progress monitoring.
  5. Plans, models and oversees the development and implementation of programs, policies, and best practices related to instruction using the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) for students with disabilities.
  6. Provides direct support to students using ABA approved methodologies to enhance teacher instruction.
  7. Creates and assists District staff with the development and implementation of behavior plans, ABA programs and other appropriate programs for students with disabilities that present behavior/learning challenges.
  8. Manages assaultive behaviors, e.g. Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI).
  9. Works with students who exhibit inappropriate behaviors and provides support and professional learning for staff to address these needs.
  10. Provides professional learning and conducts Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) for students with complex and/or severe behaviors in accordance with both Federal and State laws and regulations.
  11. Collects data and prepares a variety of reports for the purpose of documenting case history, assessments ad treatment.
  12. Travels from site to site and/or performs necessary home visits for the purpose of providing direct treatment, consultation, and collaboration for students.
  13. Assists in the evaluation of ongoing programs and makes recommendations for changes.
  14. Helps teachers to diagnose student strengths and weaknesses and to match these skills with appropriate techniques, materials, and/or technology.
  15. Works with school support staff and school administrators to facilitate the coordination of programs for students with disabilities.
  16. Coordinates and/or provides in-home training services as specified in a student’s IEP.
  17. Attends appropriate professional meetings and workshops to maintain proficiency and to acquire new ideas for instructional improvement. Informs administration of the effects of current and impending legislation.
  18. Maintains all required certification/licensure, including professional certification and district approved de-escalation/restraint/containment (e.g. CPI). 

Policy, Reports, and Law

  1. Compiles, maintains, and files all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
  2. Complies with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and the local board policy.
  3. Assists administration in the resolution of parent concerns and complaints with regards to Special Education programming.

Communication and Community Support

  1. Demonstrates awareness of district-community needs and initiates activities to meet needs.
  2. Responsible for properly maintaining district records, adhering to all policies set forth by the district for records maintenance and learning the records retention schedule for department records.
  3. Other duties as assigned.
